Introduction:
This 'H' grade has a controlled carbon content (0.05-0.1%)
to improve the creep strength and stress-rupture properties
at temperatures over 600°C (ASME II). Proprietary
grades have additional controls. Like N08800,
high toughness is maintained even on cold worked material
over 80J after 12000h (71 weeks) at 540 and 650°C.
This alloy has similar corrosion behaviour to N08800.
Metallurgy:
The chromium content is balanced by sufficient nickel
to maintain a tough austenitic structure. Nickel-aluminium
and nickel-titanium precipitates strengthen the alloy
during prolonged exposure to high
temperatures. The high nickel content aids its good
resistance to high temperature oxidation, carburization,
nitriding and relative freedom from stress corrosion
cracking.
